FOOD SECURITY SITUATION SINDHUPALCHOWK (16 July to 15 Nov, 2013).

All (79) VDCs are classified as: Minimally Food Insecure with following the trend of last year same period and last reporting period.

 More than 80% households are able to access and consume food without shifting their traditional livelihood strategies due to their own Production and source of income & remittance inflow.                                                                                                                           

Sufficient household food stock for > 4 months due to normal harvest of maize, paddy and Millet respectively with an increment of 6.16% and 7.6% than last year.                                                                                                                                                    

 Normal income and good purchasing capacity of people through sale of agricultural product mainly vegetables with worth 26.087 Million rupees, 1.899 Million rupees income through NTFPs sale and 14.59 Million rupees income from sale of high Value crop (cardamom).                                             

Income from  livestock product (milk, Ghee & Chhurpi)  with worth around 228.975 Million Which is 15% Increase than last year same period and Income from  meat ,egg & fish sells Rs:-590.07 Mmillion.                                                                         Wage employment opportunities are normally available from agricultural activities,  and private building construction as well as  some  development activities.                                                                                                            

Estimated flow of remittance worth around 1.5 Million per day all over the district it is 15-20 %   income increase compare to last year. it is contributing to goods purchasing  capacity of people. 

The security situation reported generally peaceful and no disasters and calamities were reported during the  reporting period. Although there are 5 days general strike announced by CPN-Maoist.  

FOOD SECURITY OUTLOOK (16 Nov, 2013 to 15 March, 2014)

The overall situation will remain stable in the upcoming reporting period due to sufficient household food stock for 3 to 4 months due to Paddy and Millet harvested and production expected to be normal. 

Farm and construction wage opportunity in the district. Farm related work opportunities will be available in harvesting of Paddy, Millet and planting of Wheat, Maize. 

There will be good income opportunities due to continuation of agri/livestock products, remittance. Besides that there will be harvesting season of Orange, Turmeric, and Ginger etc.  

It is likely that the market food stocks will remain sufficient throughout the next quarter due to continuing means of transport facility and food commodities prices are expected to be stable as well as most of the markets are close to highway. So that the situation predicted to be normal in the mean time of monsoon.

The coping habit will also predict to be traditional like; wage labour, market purchase. Situation of, diseases and acute malnutrition will remain normal and security situation is expected to remain normal during the next cycle.Water supply system and sanitation  facilities are predicted to be operational.
