This Food Security Bulletin covers the period July-September and is focused on the Mid and Far Western Hill and Mountain (MFWHM) region (typically the most food insecure region of the country). July – August is an agricultural lean period in Nepal and typically a season of increased food insecurity. In addition, flooding and landslides caused by monsoon regularly block transportation routes and result in localised crop losses. During the 2010 monsoon 1,600 families were reportedly displaced due to flooding, the Karnali Highway and other trade routes were blocked by landslides and significant crop losses were reported in Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, western Surkhet and southeastern Udayapur.
